According to Bild, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer said the women's team's debut at their new stadium was like a party, and the team hopes to compete for the Champions League title alongside the men's team.
Last season, both Bayern Munich's women's and men's teams won the double, but both were eliminated in the Champions League semi-finals. Speaking about the goals of Vincent Kompany's team, Hainer said, "Of course, we also want to win the Champions League. Vincent made it very clear during the Asian tour. However, besides competitive strength, achieving this requires a bit of luck. Looking back at 2012, we were clearly the better team, but we lost. In 2013 we won. The result could have been completely different."
After both the men's and women's teams won the double, is there even a chance to achieve a "double treble"? When asked by Bild, Hainer smiled and said, "I absolutely believe that, from a competitive point of view, both the men's and women's teams have the ability. I think the pace of both teams is about the same."
What makes Hainer particularly happy right now is that Kompany has given many young players opportunities during the preseason. The squad includes Senegalese stars Bala Sapoco Ndiaye (18), Bastian Assomo (16), Maikon Cardozo (17), and Tim Binder (19). Hainer said, “The most important thing about the Asian tour is that everyone has seen the huge potential of many young players. Because some veterans didn't travel with the team for the World Cup, many young players were able to travel with the team and get playing time. Furthermore, Hainer is very satisfied with the work of the club's management. The contract renewals for CEO Jan-Christian Dresen and sporting director Max Eber this autumn are merely procedural.
