Pedri's father: We chose Las Palmas because their youth training was better.

As Pedri becomes a world champion and reaches the pinnacle of his career, the development of this Tenerife native has once again come into focus. Ironically, Pedri's hometown club, Tenerife, had two opportunities to sign him, but ultimately missed out on the chance to sign the now-Barcelona star both times.

Pedri's father, Fernando González, recently reflected on why he didn't let his son join Tenerife's youth academy but instead chose Las Palmas. He stated, "We decided to go to Las Palmas because their youth academy is better."

It is understood that Pedri and his family twice rejected offers from Tenerife. The first time was because the club's offer did not meet their expectations, and the second time was because it was too late. Ultimately, Pedri joined Las Palmas in the 2018-19 season at the age of 15 and entered the U19 team.

Pedri's development thereafter far exceeded expectations. Just one season later, he caught the eye of first-team coach José Mel and was promoted to the senior team. Subsequently, Barcelona signed him for €5 million, while Pedri also continued to play for Las Palmas on loan.

Today, Pedri has become a key player for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team, and has achieved his breakthrough on the World Cup stage. For this player, born in Tenerife, wherever he goes, he has never forgotten his hometown.

“I will always keep my hometown on my flag,” Pedri once said.

In the recently concluded World Cup final, Pedri also contributed a significant amount of running and defensive effort. Recalling that match, he said, "I had to run for them, and I had to run for Spain."

Ultimately, Spain lifted the World Cup trophy. Pedri admitted that the celebrations after winning the championship were still somewhat unbelievable: "I was running and jumping, I could hardly believe it. It was a very special day for all of us."
