RMC: The Dutch Football Association has invited Martinez, marking the first time since 1978 that a foreign head coach has been appointed.

According to RMC, the Dutch Football Association has offered Roberto Martinez the head coach position following Koeman's resignation.

The Dutch Football Association is searching for a new head coach. Ronald Koeman took charge of the Netherlands national team in January 2023, resigning after the World Cup; the "Oranje" were eliminated by Morocco in the round of 32 of that World Cup. According to The Telegraph, the Dutch FA has extended an invitation to Roberto Martinez.

Roberto Martinez previously coached Belgium and then took over Portugal in 2023, remaining in charge until the end of the World Cup. In that World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates were eliminated by Spain in the Round of 16. Dutch Football Association technical director Nigel de Jong is currently in negotiations with the Spanish coach.

The Netherlands has not had a foreign head coach since 1978.

On Tuesday, Slaughter stated that he had no intention of taking over as the Dutch national team coach, preferring to focus on club football. If the Dutch Football Association ultimately chooses Roberto Martinez, he will become the first foreign coach to lead the "Oranje" since Austrian Ernst Happel in 1977-1978, when the Netherlands reached the final.
