According to Diario Sport, La Liga will introduce the Puma smart ball and new technologies to assist referees in the 2026/27 season.
The new season will use a Puma smart ball similar to that used in the World Cup. It helps identify contact between the ball and players, thus more accurately determining the moment a pass occurs, whether there is contact that is imperceptible to the naked eye, double touches in penalty kicks, or handball. This will provide new assistance to VAR referees, making football decisions more impartial.
