The Sun's list of the most expensive Premier League players to leave the country for one season: Reinds tops the list, Di Maria is also included.

Reindes is set to become the latest high-priced player to leave the Premier League after just one season, and The Sun has compiled the most expensive starting lineup for a "one-season" player.

The 28-year-old Dutch midfielder joined Manchester City last year for £46 million. But just a year later, City are reportedly ready to sell him for a profit, having reached a £52 million deal with Saudi club Cudisiah . Reindes made 28 Premier League appearances for City last season, contributing 5 goals and 2 assists, but failed to help the team win the title, ending Arsenal's 22-year league trophy drought. With his short 12-month stint at City drawing to a close, The Sun has compiled a starting lineup featuring the most expensive players to have a one-season Premier League stint, including Manchester United's £62 million blunder and five Chelsea flops.

The goalkeeper position was Manchester United's biggest blunder in 1999. The Red Devils signed Massimo Taibi from Venezia for £4.5 million, but he made a crucial error against Southampton, allowing Matt Le Tissier's weak shot to slip between his legs. Taibi was loaned to Reggina in January 2000, before settling permanently at the end of the season. The 56-year-old Italian still can't understand why he made such a costly mistake.

The right-back is Rasmus Christensen. Leeds United beat Borussia Dortmund and Brentford to sign him from Red Bull Salzburg for £9 million in 2022. But the 29-year-old Danish defender's time at Elland Road was short-lived, failing to prevent Leeds' relegation despite 26 Premier League appearances. He was among the players who left after relegation, first on loan and then permanently transferring to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly is another Chelsea flop. Chelsea signed the Senegalese centre-back from Napoli for £34 million in 2022, but he was offloaded after just 11 months. To get rid of his wage bill, Chelsea sold him to Al-Hilal for a mere £17 million. The 35-year-old Koulibaly made only 23 Premier League appearances and received a red card, making his West London stint a memorable one.

The situation is different for centre-back Hugheson, who was sold after a stellar season at Bournemouth. Real Madrid activated his £50 million release clause, and Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle all tried to retain the 21-year-old defender, but he only wanted a move to the Bernabéu. Hugheson previously joined Bournemouth from Juventus for £12.6 million, making 32 Premier League appearances.

The left-back is Filipe Luis. Chelsea signed the Brazilian left-back from Atletico Madrid for £15.8 million in July 2014. He made only 15 Premier League appearances and won the title with the team, but quickly returned to Atletico Madrid after that season, where he remained until his retirement in 2023.

Midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko was a £30 million signing for Chelsea in 2017. The 31-year-old French midfielder failed to live up to expectations in 29 Premier League appearances during the 2017-18 season, subsequently spending two loan spells at AC Milan, interspersed with stints at Monaco and Napoli. Chelsea considered terminating his £110,000-a-week contract, but he ultimately joined Lorient on a free transfer.

Attacking midfielder Joao Felix made only 16 appearances in his only full Premier League season. Chelsea signed the 26-year-old Portuguese attacker from Atletico Madrid two years ago for £42.6 million, and this was his second chance to prove himself at Stamford Bridge, after a loan spell in 2023. But after Al-Nassr's victory, Chelsea immediately sold him for £43.7 million.

Winger Moussa Diaby also moved to Saudi Arabia after one season in the Premier League. The 27-year-old Frenchman joined Aston Villa for £43 million, rejecting a lucrative contract in the Middle East. Under Unai Emery, he contributed 16 goals in 38 Premier League appearances, but then changed his mind, and Villa sold him to Al-Ittihad for £60 million, where he earned a weekly wage of £400,000.

Winger Angel Di Maria has admitted he hated his time at Manchester United. He joined the club in 2014 for a then-record British transfer fee of nearly £60 million, just months after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid. Di Maria became a liability for Manchester United, and his wife has stated she never considered going to England. The Argentine winger, currently playing for Rosario Central, was subsequently sold to Paris Saint-Germain.

The center forward is the fifth Chelsea flop – Lukaku. Before returning to Stamford Bridge in August 2021 for £97.5 million, he played for Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Everton, and Manchester United. But the return was far from romantic; just 12 months later, the striker, who had performed well elsewhere and scored three goals in the World Cup, was loaned to Inter Milan and Roma, before being sold by Chelsea to Napoli.
