According to Mundo Deportivo, Ferran Torres is close to joining Paris Saint-Germain. Barcelona and PSG reportedly reached an agreement on Thursday for a transfer worth close to €50 million without add-ons.
The 26-year-old is experiencing the best summer of his career. On July 19th, he scored the winning goal, helping Spain secure their second World Cup title. Throughout the tournament, he hinted at his reluctance to discuss what would happen after the summer, or to clarify whether he would renew his contract, fulfill his existing one, or, as he ultimately chose, change jerseys. Paris Saint-Germain has already prepared a five-year contract for him. Sometimes, a curt response says a lot.
Barcelona fans calmly accepted the striker's departure. Last season, he consistently outmaneuvered Lewandowski as a starter. Yet this summer, the Polish striker, at 38 years old, left Barcelona after four seasons and 120 goals (an average of 30 goals per game), while Ferran chose to leave Camp Nou. Until recently, he insisted on achieving success as Barcelona's number 9 whenever the opportunity presented itself. That will no longer be the case.
When Ferran left Barcelona, he had made 207 appearances for the team, contributing 65 goals. It's worth noting that initially he was deployed more on the wings than as a striker in the penalty area—a position Flick frequently used. Ferran scored 40 goals in two seasons under Flick, including 19 in the 2024-25 season and 21 in the 2025-26 season.
Perhaps seeing the constant front-page headlines devoted to Julian Alvarez, Ferran realized that even with Lewandowski's departure, he might not secure the central role he desired. This assessment isn't hard to understand, and an equally reasonable inference is that he would face even fiercer competition at Paris Saint-Germain. There, he'd find current Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, as well as competitive players like Kvalachhria and Desiree Dué. PSG recently signed Monaco winger Mahrez Akliush and is pushing forward with announcing the signing of dribbler Mika Götz, for which they will pay Ajax €55 million. Currently, the team still has Bradley Barcora in the squad, and PSG is demanding €150 million from Liverpool for this first-choice striker, €100 million more than they paid for Ferran.
