According to Bild, Lahm believes that Klopp's appointment is not enough to immediately get the German team back on track.
In an interview with the World Sunday News, the captain of the 2014 World Cup-winning team said the new German national team coach might bring an initial revival: "The situation could improve soon. Klopp is very experienced. In my judgment, he will stick to his system. I don't think he will experiment a lot. But if we want to return to the world's top ranks in the long term, we must answer one question: What does German football really mean?"
Lahm criticized the World Weekly, saying, "We lack such a clear thinking. We always go down different paths and end up losing our identity. This is a problem for German football as a whole."
Lahm also called on the German Football Association to provide stronger guidance: "The association should give clearer directions." Lahm himself is currently leading a summer camp through his foundation, with 80 children from social organizations participating.
