According to The Athletic, Kevin Lamour has left his position as FIFA's Chief Operating Officer.
Lamour's departure came after FIFA officials issued a statement to the Associated Press on July 31 criticizing FIFA President Gianni Infantino. At the time, controversy was brewing surrounding the shelved FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal.
Lamour told the Associated Press that FIFA staff were "deceived" by Infantino regarding the FFE plan, which originally aimed to open up World Cup-related interests to private investment.
A FIFA spokesperson said in a statement to The Athletic: "FIFA can confirm that the working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour as Chief Operating Officer ended on August 17, 2026."
FIFA thanks Kevin for his service over the past two years and wishes him all the best for the future.
"No further comment will be made on this matter."
Lamour, who previously worked with Gianni Infantino at UEFA, told the Associated Press in July: "This is one person's project."
“This project should not only be discontinued… but it is also time for political leaders in the football world to ask themselves the right questions and make the right decisions.”
Lamour also stated that he was prepared to lose his job for speaking out publicly.
In a statement to the Associated Press, he added, "If this means I'll lose my job, so be it. I will understand and respect that decision. At least I can get a good night's sleep tonight."
FIFA Secretary General Matthias Grafström informed FIFA staff via email that Ramour would be leaving the organization and thanked them for his service.
Lamour's departure follows that of Carlos Cordero, Infantino's senior advisor, who resigned in July after opposing the FFE plan.
