According to Sky Italia, Atalanta's Brazilian defensive midfielder Ederson Silva has spoken publicly for the first time about his failed transfer to Manchester United.
Ederson told Sky Sports Italia: "To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what happened. There have always been other clubs interested in me, and I could have joined another Premier League team."
Manchester United abandoned the signing after Ederson underwent a medical in England, but the Brazilian player insisted that the medical results were fine.
"The medical examination went smoothly, I don't know what went wrong. I played for Atlanta for four years and always had games to play."
After his failed transfer to the Premier League, Ederson decided to extend his contract with Atalanta until 2031.
According to Sky Italia, Manchester United abandoned the deal because they discovered Ederson had knee strain and were worried that it would affect his transfer value in the coming years.
Ederson underwent serious ligament surgery while playing for Brazil's U20 team in Depotivo, sidelining him for 11 months. At that time, he reconstructed his anterior cruciate ligament and also treated injuries to his lateral meniscus and patellar tendon.
