The Argentine Football Association has been informed of the penalty decision and will appeal to the FIFA Appeals Committee.

On August 21, Beijing time, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) issued a statement indicating that it was aware of FIFA's punishment. To protect the interests of the AFA and the players involved, it will appeal to FIFA's Appeals Committee and reserves the right to submit the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Today, the Argentine Football Association received notification of the ruling from FIFA's Disciplinary Committee regarding the case initiated during the 2026 World Cup.

The following penalties are hereby imposed:

- A $10,000 fine was imposed for displaying the Falkland Islands flag (using a sporting event to make non-sports-related comments); an additional $20,000 fine was imposed for spectator misconduct. (Case No.: FDD-28524)

- Due to the chanting of racist, homophobic, and discriminatory slogans and insults by Argentine spectators during matches against Cape Verde, Egypt, Switzerland, England, and Spain (violating Article 15 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code), the following decision is made:

b.1) A fine of US$100,000, plus an additional fine of the same amount, suspended for 6 months;

b.2) In the next official home game of the Argentine men's national team, 50% of the stands (mainly the stands behind the goal) will be closed.

b.3) The same penalty as above shall be imposed, but the penalty shall be suspended for one year, provided that no violation of the same nature and severity occurs during the period.

b.4) The Argentine Football Association must, within the next six months, invest the amount of the fine in implementing and/or developing a comprehensive plan. This plan, subject to FIFA approval, must aim to ensure anti-discrimination action is taken and to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

b.5) As an alternative to closing 50% of the available seating, with FIFA approval, the Argentine Football Association may allocate 50% of the closed seating (i.e., 25% of the stadium capacity) to community groups and/or specific groups, such as families, students, and anti-discrimination organizations. The proposed seating arrangement must include anti-discrimination measures, such as requiring spectators to wear anti-discrimination themed jerseys and/or display anti-discrimination slogans. Argentine fans were fined $91,000 for throwing objects onto the pitch during matches against Switzerland and England, causing delays and violating FIFA safety protocols. (Case No.: FDD-28648)

- Due to the incident that occurred after the final of the tournament, the following suspension and fine are imposed:

a) Assistant coach Ayala is suspended for 3 games and fined $30,000;

b) Player Thiago Almada will be suspended for one game and fined $30,000;

c) Player Molina is suspended for 7 games and fined $90,000;

d) Player Paredes is suspended for 10 games and fined $90,000.

It should be noted that the suspensions imposed on the official and the aforementioned players will be carried out in subsequent official matches involving the Argentine men's senior national team.

In light of the aforementioned notification, and to protect the rights and interests of the Argentine Football Association and the relevant players, the Argentine Football Association's Legal Affairs Department will, in accordance with the law, apply to FIFA for a reviewable ruling within the prescribed time limit and file an appeal with the Appeals Board of the world's governing body for football. In the future, the Association may still submit the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport as a last resort.
