The Danish Football Association announced on Friday that it will not support Gianni Infantino in the next FIFA presidential election, citing his tenure at FIFA as having triggered a "fundamental crisis of confidence in the organization's leadership."
Gianni Infantino has recently faced renewed criticism for a plan that was later abandoned to privatize parts of the World Cup.
The Danish Football Association stated that this attempt caused a "fundamental crisis of confidence in FIFA's leadership," and emphasized that the subsequent "apology" and "withdrawal of the proposal" did not change its position.
The Danish Football Association added that they did not support Infantino in the last election in 2022, and they will not support him at the 77th FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco on March 18, 2027.
The Danish Football Association also stated: "The Danish Football Association will work with UEFA and our international counterparts to ensure that member associations have a genuine choice in the 2027 presidential election, as well as a credible alternative that can unite the continental federations of FIFA and rebuild the broken trust."
The deadline for nominating candidates for the FIFA presidential election is November 18 this year, and there are currently no competitors for Gianni Infantino, according to the French newspaper L'Équipe.
The Danish Football Association has made it clear that it hopes to "see a new president in a leadership position at FIFA".
The Danish Football Association also announced that it would support UEFA's position on boycotting future FIFA events, provided that FIFA does not provide the necessary guarantees to prevent its events from being opened to private sector investors.
