In a recent interview with SportMania24, Ambrosini commented on the recent controversies surrounding Maldini, Leonardo, and Andrea Pirlo in Italian football. He stated bluntly that the way these events were handled has left a bad impression of Italian football on the world stage.
Ambrosini stated, "The various claims circulating in those days were utterly absurd. I am deeply saddened by this because the entire process was handled terribly. Both the process and the final decision left the world with a terrible, even appalling, image."
"As an Italian, this makes me feel both ashamed and embarrassed."
When discussing the selection of the Italian national team coach, Ambrosini stated that he would not prioritize Roberto Mancini, but this does not mean that he believes Mancini is incapable of leading the team to the World Cup.
“I wouldn’t choose Mancini, even though he’s an excellent coach. But that doesn’t mean he can’t lead Italy to the World Cup.”
In contrast, Ambrosini has a higher regard for Maldini and Leonardo's abilities. He believes that the two have a clearer development philosophy and long-term plan.
“Maldini and Leonardo are better choices than Ranieri. They have clear ideas and plans. I hope they can really implement their plans because I know they could have done a certain type of work.”
Furthermore, Ambrosini also defended Pirlo, believing that previous criticism of the Italian midfield legend had been too harsh.
"I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Pirlo succeeding either. Some ridiculous things have been said about him in Italy. We Italians can be really awful sometimes."
