In an interview with SportMania24, Massimo Ambrosini gave a strongly worded comment on the recent events surrounding the Italian national team involving Maldini, Leonardo, and Andrea Pirlo.
Ambrosini stated, "The rumors circulating those days were absurd. I felt very uncomfortable because the whole thing was handled terribly. We left a very poor, even appalling, impression on the world regarding management decisions and personnel selection. As an Italian, I felt both embarrassed and humiliated. Even if Mancini was highly capable, I wouldn't have made the decision to choose him, but that doesn't mean he couldn't lead us to the World Cup."
Ambrosini continued, "Compared to Ranieri, Maldini and Leonardo are more suitable candidates; they have clear ideas and plans. I hope they can move the project forward, and I know they could have come up with a mature working plan. This was the right choice. Similarly, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Pirlo could do a good job. The comments surrounding him are absurd. In Italy, we handle these kinds of things terribly."
