Simon Jordan: Isaac has only played one game this season, so it's too early to judge him.

Liverpool striker Isak's performance in the first game of the new season has been questioned, but talkSPORT host Simon Jordan believes it is too early to draw conclusions about the Swedish striker.

Isak joined Liverpool this summer for £125 million, but his adaptation to the team has been hampered by injuries. In the first round of the new season, Isak returned to St. James' Park to face his former club Newcastle United, and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. He failed to score and his performance was criticized.

Owen believes Isak is "running out of excuses." He stated that he understands injured players need time to recover, but now that Isak is ready for the season, Liverpool needs to see the level he displayed at Newcastle United as soon as possible.

Owen said: "We need to start seeing the real Isak. We know how good he is. He was fantastic at Newcastle United, but so far we haven't seen that at Liverpool."

However, Jordan disagreed with criticizing Isaac at this point. He stated, "Irving's comments are quite absurd. He's only played one game this season. He's been plagued by injuries recently, and we don't have enough data to evaluate him."

Jordan believes that if Isaac has played three or four games in a row by the end of August and his performance is still poor, then it would be more reasonable for outsiders to raise questions.

He also pointed out that Isak's effectiveness depends not only on the player's own form but also on Liverpool's style of play. "If Liverpool doesn't play the way that suits this player, if they don't pass the ball to him, what can you expect him to do? Are you expecting him to receive the ball at the edge of his own penalty area and then dribble all the way up the pitch?"

However, Jordan also acknowledged that truly capable players in big games should be able to seize opportunities in such matches. He stated that Isak's return to Newcastle United should have been an opportunity to prove himself, so it remains to be seen whether he can demonstrate his abilities in crucial games.

Isak suffered a serious injury last season, missing about four months due to a fractured fibula. Before joining Liverpool, he made 86 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United, scoring 54 goals, and also scored in the 2025 League Cup final against Liverpool.
